Thanks to Russell Raby for the following information
To the best of my knowledge the name Raby made it's first appearance in England at the Manor of Raby (or Rabi). The name Raby is Norse coming from the 11th century, when the "Raby Castle" was founded, by King Cnut. Ra - means a secluded place, and By - Settlement. The castle is located in the north of England near Durham in the Township of Staindrop. The Castle still ofters tours to the public.
